Your Ultimate Guide to Bermuda
Are you looking for an awesome vacation destination? Bermuda might be perfect! Here’s your ultimate guide to this awesome island:
Why should you go to Bermuda?
First of all, Bermuda is a British overseas territory and as such it has great places where you can enjoy the typical English traditions: tea time and afternoon tea, pubs and other classic English places.
You can also see the Bermuda Government House, the official residence of the British Governor, where cocktail parties are hosted during summer.
Bermuda is a great place for sports lovers because there are many fun activities to do here! All you need to do is go to any beach and rent some equipment or simply buy your own and start your journey through the amazing world of sports.
You can do water sports, the main ones being wind surfing, kite surfing and jet skiing while on land you can play golf or go hiking in the beautiful nature paths.
What places would you recommend seeing?
To start with, I’d recommend getting to know some of the beaches because Bermuda is famous for its pink sand beaches, so go to Horseshoe Bay or Jobson’s Cove.
There are also many caves you should visit, the most important being Crystal and Fantasy Caves. The first one is a large cave near Somerset Long Bay where you can see the amazing stalagmites and stalactites.
The second one, Fantasy Cave is near Hamilton and it’s a must see because the unusual rock formations are shaped in an amazing way.
If you want to see some historic places, I’d suggest visiting St. Peter Church or the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute.
Other than that there are also other cities and towns where you can visit: Somerset and St. George, both of them being very important historic cities.
How to get around?
There are many ways to get around Bermuda. The public transport is well developed and it works excellent. You can also use the ferry lines to go from one place to another, mainly between Southampton and Hamilton or Dockyard which is a marina where cruise ships dock.
As for renting a car, that’s definitely the best way to get around the island, especially if you’re going to use a car during your vacation.
Among the main driving rules I would like to mention that there are no road markings in Bermuda, which actually makes driving more difficult for visitors but once you get used to it, then everything is okay.
What kind of food should you try?
Bermuda is a British overseas territory and as such it has many places where you can taste typical English food. You can also try some other delicious treats like the Bermuda fish cakes or butter cookies!
What’s more, I recommend trying one of Bermuda’s signature dishes which is conch chowder. It’s very good and even those who don’t like seafood will enjoy this one.
The best places to eat are those little restaurants scattered all around the island where you can taste the delicious fresh fish and drink a nice glass of Bermuda rum! I’d recommend having dinner at Da Lido or Annie’s Bay as both of them have amazing food!
How much does it cost to go there?
Bermuda definitely isn’t the cheapest destination in the world but it’s also not that expensive.
To get there you need to buy an airplane ticket and it can cost around $300-$500 round trip depending on when you’re planning your vacation.
A week-long stay could cost around $1500-$2000 for two people, not including your accommodations.
An average meal will cost around $40-$50 for two people while a delicious cocktail could cost you around $10.
As for renting an apartment, it depends on the location and how comfortable you want to be but I’d recommend not spending more than $150 per day.
The best thing about Bermuda is that there are also many hotels where you can get a good room for $100-$200 per night which is really amazing!
Any tips for the future traveler?
Definitely. I would recommend doing as much as possible because you can’t do it all in a week or two and make sure to take water shoes with you, they will help you visit the caves and even go snorkeling!
As for seeing the shipwrecks, you will need to take a boat tour and it’s very fun!
Also, if you’re going to rent a car make sure to not go too far from the main island because the roads are really different from those in USA or Canada.
Also, don’t forget about your travel insurance as you never know if something unfortunate can happen.
Lastly, take a lot of pictures and enjoy your awesome vacation to Bermuda!
Bermuda is a beautiful destination with many things to offer. From the gorgeous beaches, amazing food, and historic sites to exploring shipwrecks or snorkeling in caves–there’s something for everyone!
If you’re looking for an unforgettable vacation that will provide endless memories of your time there then Bermuda should be at the top of your list.
